Coordination and Arc Flash Compliance

End users require compliance with OSHA and NFPA 70E guidelines regarding worker safety; meeting the arc flash labeling requirements can be a difficult task without a comprehensive model and detailed analysis. PowerServ Engineering uses SKM PowerTools for performing short circuit/coordination/arc flash studies. Durable labels are also provided for each electrical device required by NEC 110.16.
For those locations subject to particularly high incident energy, we are able to analyze mitigation options, including zone interlocking, differential protection, or light sensing technologies.
Additionally, with the latest code updates requiring selective coordination for medical and/or critical systems, careful attention to properly coordinated protective devices is necessary. We provide expert and highly experienced analysis of systems from all manufacturers. A properly designed and adjusted protective system provides both high coordination as well as the lowest possible arc flash energy.

Harmonic/Power Quality Analysis

With over 20 years experience in power quality analysis, we are well-equipped to determine the needs of any distribution system with regards to load flow, voltage profile, and harmonic content. Numerous successful projects have been performed on both new and existing systems:
Impedance grounding –through the use of zigzag or wye-delta grounding transformers, we are able to select ideal grounding impedances for critical process industrial systems. This permits high uptime in addition to providing the end user a means of locating inadvertent faults within the system while it is still in operation.
Voltage regulation – by implementing passive capacitor or inverter-based STATCOM systems, we can ensure your voltage profile is at optimal levels, even during large motor starting events. Careful analysis of the power system is necessary before specifying the preferred topology and size, which we have performed on multiple projects.
Harmonic Studies – With all modern electrical systems, harmonics are of concern. Whether you have a high concentration of motor drives or desire to install power factor correction capacitors, we have the capabilities of ensuring you will not run into issues of harmonic resonance. A custom programmatic model has been developed by PSE for predicting the behavior of harmonics in the system in the presence of passive tuned or untuned filters. Relay Integration

We have been applying modern solutions to vintage relay protection schemes ever since the proliferation of electronic relaying in the 1990's. Electromechanical relays to microprocessor is the first step in obtaining reliable protection with fault location and metering abilities. But, we also are able to provide additional protective functions not previously available to the single-function relay, such as negative sequence, power, or directional sensing. Allow us to analyze your current system, and determine optimal and cost effective solutions to improve your protection with any manufacturer's relay.
Having nuisance tripping? Faults that are occuring too often and go unresolved? Our detailed understanding of sequence components and fault analysis allow us to determine not just the type of fault, but its direction and most likely root cause. Remote communications allows engineering access to a relay any time day or night, when immediate answers are needed, and all through the internet. Allow us to set up a secure communications path that provides your facility with the internal data points you desire, whether using MODBUS or DNP protocols. Or consider a touchscreen interface, where all your relays' data and status is available at the touch of a button.
